Say “Hi” to the Frazzled Mommy!

I often find my days settling into a strange system of crazy countdowns. For instance, I went grocery shopping tonight while the hubby put the two rugrats to bed … It is FIVE days until Christmas … I saw a family of FOUR helping themselves to the bulk candy chocolates … THREE people looked at me oddly when I smiled and said hello … As I walked out of the store carrying TWO bags of groceries, I realized no one had said “Merry Christmas” or even “Happy Holidays” – not even the cashier … Then as I rounded the corner to my car, I was surprised by ONE short, round old woman wearing a brightly colored scarf

“Merry Christmas!” She called over to me. Her smile was toothless, but it was the friendliest I’d seen all night. She could not have been more than four feet tall, yet she toddled along carrying four garbage bags full of pop cans. Obviously more down on her luck (or just smarter) than all the uppity-ups who had just snubbed my sniffling, mom-minus-makeup appearance, she was the ONE who brightened my night. “Merry Christmas to you, too!” I said as I smiled back.

Now just so you and I don’t part ways without me putting a smile on your face during this festive season, here’s a little bit of “Bean” that will bring you some Christmas cheer. And please don’t get your bustle so caught up in the hustle that you forget to say hi back to the next frazzled mommy you see at the grocery store.

Merry Christmas, Bethany! Tis the reason for the season that matters! People are so afraid to acknowledge the true meaning which is a celebration of someone's birthday!

Mr. Bean is always funny. Just keep him away from my tree! lol Thanks for the laughs!

I've noticed that too — no one says Merry Christmas or even Happy Holidays any more — I'm going to make sure I do. Thanks for the reminder.
