We film more videos for the site tonight. I stand in front of my closet full of simple things and a few flashy things, and I think about my standard for this site: clean, modest, inspiring, non-intimidating. Unfortunately, that means this site might not grow as rapidly as other more “visually appealing” sites that have exposed flesh all over their home pages and videos.
I’m no trollop (aka: hussy, gaudy, done-up woman according my mother) so most of my stuff fits the standard, but I’m still amazed at how much of my typical attire simply won’t work while doing downward dog. I want to look nice in these videos, but I’m not willing to draw a crowd of gawkers. I want to draw a crowd of people who want to get in shape not stare at my shape. We once stopped filming right in the middle of a move, because Chris (my amazing IT guy and business partner) pointed out – rather sheepishly with his hand covering his eyes – that the camera had a clear view straight down my cleavage. Thanks, Chris! We laughed, I adjusted my shirt, we re-filmed and that was that. I like to look good, especially for my husband. I’ve been known to flash a little skin here and there, but at the proper time and place. This site isn’t about skin, it’s about muscle. It’s about the mind, body and spirit. Believe it or not, we can attribute the growing interest in modest to muslim women. Go to http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-06-13-muslim-modesty_x.htm to read an article about some interesting yet valid concerns that these women have. Here in America, we think nothing of boobies and butts hanging out everywhere. In the Middle East, just those two “B-words” would earn me a great deal of criticism. Because we want this site to be family friendly, we have some high standards, but they don’t really apply to you. Bethany doesn’t strip down to her skivvies in the videos, but you could … Talk about excellent range of motion and non-restrictive attire (or the lack thereof)!!! It’s just that we want this site to shine above the others as a true example of health, inside and out. And we don’t have to take our clothes off for that. |
