Ankles weights used to be really popular. The appeal of burning extra calories by strapping a little extra sand to your stride is hard to resist. We add weight to our lifting routines to get stronger, so why not add weight to our cardio routines? The answer lies in numbers. Some quick math will reveal how many repetitions you perform in a given weight workout, and each set focuses on just one or two muscles groups. Cardio training is your body moving at once, and it’s a LOT more reps than weight lifting.
Adding ankles weights to your cardio training is like agreeing to be overweight and fat for the duration of your workout. The resulting wear and tear on your joints is extremely detrimental.
