The stage was set. The lights were on. My makeup was done, my hair kinda-done … and that’s when my biz partner, Chris, asked an interesting question. No, wait, he didn’t ask. He stated: We’re going to do this live on U-stream.
“What’s U-Stream?” I asked, and he shook his head sadly at my ignorance. So that you won’t join me in my previous ignorance, let me share with you so we can all be enlightened. Basically, he put a laptop with a built-in camera (think Skype) off to the side of the set. Then we told Twitter and Facebook to go watch us LIVE and gave them a link.
Suddenly an average of 13 strangers were staring at my backside while I filmed for our online Pilates and Yoga studio – Hey, Chris! Can you put the laptop camera over THERE instead? Yeah, thanks!
It was rather odd. A normally private time of erasing mistakes and laughing at bloopers was suddenly public. We got comments. We got suggestions to make the lighting better (um, it’s not the real camera, folks!)
The real thing is way better! The real thing is amazing! But we used the side camera to generate buzz and conversation and community. We want to let people in. We want to make fitness accessible. And that starts in our living rooms and ends in yours 🙂
How fun — good to have business partners who push you into new things.
