Kelly Dean graduated in 1997 with a Masters of Physical Therapy from the University of North Dakota after completing her undergraduate work at the University of New Mexico, where she also swam competitively for the Lobos for four years. Kelly spent the first seven years of her career as a stroke and brain injury specialist, and then several years in a home health setting working with clients in real-life situations. During this time, Kelly was growing her family and had three children along with five, second-trimester miscarriages. The journey into motherhood was very difficult on her previously strong and athletic body, not to mention her heart and spirit. After discovering her own six-finger-wide and deep diastasis, experiencing severe low back pain, pelvic floor issues, and being told by every medical professional that surgery was the only option, Kelly started looking for another option. Her experience in retraining the body in functional environments, and seeing miracles in the body’s ability to heal, told her that diastasis could be healed without surgery. The process of learning how to heal her own body and reclaim her own life has fueled her passion to help others. Kelly began The Tummy Team in April of 2009 and has been focusing on Core Rehabilitation for women, men, and children ever since. She now speaks at international medical conferences, medical universities, and teaches other professionals around the world how to treat diastasis and fully rehabilitate the core.
